Art of CAS (Create-A-Sim)
The Sims game has been a well known and well loved series across all ages. It's ability to simulate life is the heart of the game, but it also provides an amazing opportunity to create worlds, sims, and notably, the characters. Every Sims game offers customization settings that allow players to fully control how their "Sims" will look. It can be an exact version of them or their favorite character from a book or show. The possibilities are endless!
In particular, the Sims 4 features extensive customization controls. In the game, this is called CAS, or Create-A-Sim. Here, players, or "Simmers" can mold their Sims to however they want or who they want them to be.
Just to give a rundown of what CAS entails, I, your resident Simmer, Tofu, am here to give you a quick tour!
Overview:
- Character Creation
- Body and Face Modification

Character Creation

In the Sims, the first thing you can do is create your Sim. Once you enter CAS mode, you will be able to choose the basics for your Sim in the Character Creation Menu.
With the Character Creation Menu, you can name your Sim and choose their pronouns, gender, age, voice, as well as their walk style.
Under gender, you can choose between Female or Male, and there's even an extended menu where you can specify if your Sim's preferences in clothes and whether they can pee standing up or get pregnant. You can also change their pronouns to cater to the various gender identities we have today. I know it's really that amazing and progressive.
Under age, you can choose from toddler, child, teen, young adult, adult, and elder so if you wanna start out as a broke teenager living in dorm rooms or an elder enjoying their retirement, it is totally up to you. Just a note though, if you plan to create toddlers or children, you need to create an older Sim which falls under the range of teens to elders. Please don't leave your children unattended.
Under voice, you can change the pitch and type of voice your Sim can have from being sultry to sweet and brash to clear. So this really gives you the chance to match your favorite singer's voice. Well, not perfectly, but still, close.

To give more personality, you can choose their walk style, and I know what you're thinking, walk style?! And that's exactly what they're giving you, a walk style! This adds a flair to your Sims and can definitely make them stand out from the rest. I personally love the "Creepy" walk style.
Body and Face Modification
Now you're all set for the next step! You've finally created the base of your Sim and now it's time to mold them!
Presets

Presets, in essence, are the foundations of every part of the body and face of your Sim. These presets determine the physical shape and type of their head, forehead, eyebrows, eyes, nose, cheekbones, jaw, chin, teeth, and body build, as well as the color of their skin, hair and eyes. You can also choose your Sim's hair style, facial hair, as well as add some flair to their face with different facial features such as freckles, wrinkles, and much more.
Sliders

In the Sims, modifications can be made through the use of sliders. These sliders are what their name means. You can slide them and depending where you're sliding them, they either get bigger or smaller.
Now I won't go into detail for every slider, but generally if you slide to the left and down, the body part your changing will get smaller or lower, while if you slide to the right or up, it gets bigger or higher. Moreover, you can go into "Detail" mode for the face so you can sculpt that Sims face just the way you want it!

Clothes, Make-Up & Accessories
You've created the perfect Sim, now all you need is to spice things up! The answer to that? Dress up time!
In CAS, there are various clothing options, as well as accessories, and to complete the look, make-up!
You can dress your Sim with different hats, jewelry, shades, and even try on make-up looks you dare not even try in the real world. You can even add tattoos! Imagine that, you never even need to get near a needle, or at least your Sim doesn't have to to get that perfect baddie look! And what's a look without, of course, the outfit? You can mix and match tops and bottoms or if you're feeling lazy, just slap on a set and call it a day! No one's gonna judge you.
Moreover, you have the option to dress up your Sim for different ocassions or categories: Everyday, Formal, Sporty, Sleep, Swimsuit, and Hot and Cold Weather, which are only usable if you buy the Seasons Expansion Pack. Under these outfit categories, you have the ability to dress your Sim in 5 different outfits per category. So if you're a fashionista like me, you'll be in wonderland!
Choosing Aspirations, Traits, and More!
Oops! Before you can even click that Check mark, you should really put some real personality to your Sims. And you can easily do this by choosing your Sim's Aspirations and Traits.
To quote a great Simmer and provider of guides, Carl's Sim Guides "The Sims 4's aspirations are life goals that Sims may select, allowing them to complete a checklist of objectives to earn Satisfaction that may be spent toward Rewards". You can change this as you go along the life of your Sim, but you need to choose one before finishing your Sims in CAS. This will allow Sims to have a goal in their lives, a dream!

Additionally, traits will also define your Sim! These are essentially personality traits which will determine how your Sims will typically feel or what they will want. You can opt from choosing this one though if you want to let your Sim discover themselves! For those of you who have a perfect image of their Sim's characters though, you can choose from a wide range of traits! Go crazy, but be reminded that it's only limited to three traits for young adults to elders, two for teens, and one for children and toddlers.

Fortunately for us, Simmers, there is a whole world of Mods! But that's for another discussion. For now, try exploring the game for yourself and don't forget to share in the comments your experiences! Happy Simming!
